hey halehuppas!
this blog was named after the "awesome" possums that were brought in by the Australians into the land of the Kiwis. Originally, there were no land mammals present in NZ. And now thanks to the Australians, the Kiwis are plagued with the presence of the possums.
so why are the possums "awesome"?
Possums are regarded as nuisance in New Zealand 'cause not only is it the only land mammal around (spoiling the image of NZ which was previously well-known for free of land mammals), but it has caused a lot of damage to the environment in NZ. Possums feed on the greenery and has increased rapidly in population ever since. There are no other land mammals to feed on these possums, thus explaining why the possums are rapidly procreating.
Hence, the NZ government has come up with some measures to curb the possums from overpopulating. One of the drastic measures is setting possum traps all around NZ. Not too sure whether this method was effective or not, though.
